HORIZONTAL DRILLING

We further explore the drilling sector.

DIRECTIONAL DRILLING

The directional drilling (HDD – horizontal directional drilling), also known as controlled horizontal drilling, guided drilling or controlled horizontal drilling (TOC), is a no dig technology suitable for the installation of new pipelines without performing open excavations .

WHY CHOOSE US

The advantages of directional drills are many

TECHNOLOGY

CEMIR srl has machines of various powers and dimensions, and tools suitable for working in different materials. Our staff will be able to identify the best solution based on the type of soil and the quantity and diameter of the pipes to be laid.

QUALIFICATION

CEMIR srl also has qualified personnel and certified equipment for the realization of head-to-head welds for HDPE (high density polyethylene) pipes.

OPERATIONAL PHASES

PILOT BORE

normally of small diameter (100-150 mm) it is realized by means of a drilling battery which is maneuvered through the combination of rotations and thrusts whose effect, on the trajectory followed by the bottom-hole tool, is controlled through the guide system; The pilot drilling can follow pre-assigned plano-altimetric paths that can also contain curved sections;

BACK REAMING

for the widening of the hole up to the required dimensions: once the pilot hole is completed with the exit of the bottom-of-hole tool (exit point), the tool is mounted on the top of the battery of steel rods. widening of the pilot hole (reamer), having a larger diameter than the pilot hole, and the whole is pulled backwards towards the drilling rig (entry point). During the return journey the reamer widens the pilot hole. This process can be repeated several times until the required diameter is reached. The sequence of the boring passages follows precise criteria that depend on the type of soil to be crossed and on its geo-lithological characteristics;

PIPE OR CABLE SHOOTING

when the last boring phase is completed, at the exit point the pipe to be installed is assembled above ground and connected, with a suitable pulling head, to the battery of drilling rods, with the interposition of a thrust-bearing swivel joint (called swivel o swivel) whose function is to transmit the tractions to the pipeline in the launch phase but not the pairs and therefore the rotations. Once the entry point is reached, the laying of the pipe can be considered finished.

MATERIALS

The pipes that can be installed with directional drilling must not only be constructed with materials resistant to traction, but the joints, whatever their type, must be able to withstand the tensile forces generated during the shooting operation. Through directional drilling, steel and PEAD pipes are mainly installed head-to-head; when the joints are of the type resistant to traction (it is not enough that they are simple unthreading joints) then it is also possible to install PVC and cast iron.
